We had a couple of unseasonably warm days, but we’re moving into rainy and cooler — just as I expect in March in Missouri.
What are you reading?
I finished Nice Racism: How Progressive White People Perpetuate Racial Harm by Robin Diangelo. Read this, white folks, even if you think you don’t need it. Hopefully, there are going to be many places where you’re able to say “I used to do that, but I don’t any more.” Those are exactly the things that we need to be prepared to help other white folks with (friends don’t let friends say they’re color-blind). Since I read this with a class alongside people more experienced than me, I can almost guarantee that there are also going to be moments where every one of us says, “Oops! That’s something that I still want to work on.”
After finishing The Frozen River last week, it took a couple of tries before I found another book to start. I ended up with a choice that surprised me and couldn’t be more different, but it’s really working: Bellwether by Connie Willis. Willis is generally a science fiction writer, but this doesn’t feel like that (so far). There’s a lot of science and pop culture (especially fads). The narrative voice is humorous and engaging. It pulled me right in!
What are you watching or listening to?
I enjoyed the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics — particularly in that stunning ancient setting of Verona Arena. Now, I’m looking forward to the Paralympics and I took a look at how the UK is participating in my British Isles Friday post.

Paying attention to Timothy Snyder, author of On Tyranny. He published this in a post on Wednesday:

His post today is the most clear-eyed analysis that I’ve seen.
