Talking to candidates #SundaySalon — 11 Comments

  1. Our weather plummeted back into freezing cold on Friday and we are supposed to get snow tomorrow. Fake spring is over and I am looking forward to real spring. Yay for finishing and enjoying three books this week.

  2. Good for you, Joy, for talking with candidates and letting us know about the experience.

I’m a huge fan of illustrated and hand-lettered books. Of course, many children’s picture books are this sort of book. Books for grownups that I think of right away are the books of Maira Kalman.

  3. What a great idea to meet with the candidates whenever possible. You touched on one of the reasons why I don’t want it to get warm too soon, and that is the flowers think it’s time to wake up. But when that warmth is gone again they struggle. We need it to stay cold or cool until the weather can be consistently warm. February is too soon. Stay cozy and have a great week! 🙂

  4. I have so loved the Olympics and Alysa’s final competition was so filled with joy! I was glad she won. Elena M. too. (Did you see the feature of her with her two children?) Vivian has two other books “Le Road Trip” (about traveling through France) and “Gardens of Awe and Folly.” Illustrated and hand done. I liked Susan Branch’s “A Fine Romance” about her travels to England and Sarah Midda’s garden book, just for her illustrations. I’m so glad you liked “Wanderers.”

  5. I loved Alysa Liu’s performance as well. It was impossible not to grin while watching her.

I am so glad that Jeanie mentioned that book! I am really enjoying it as well. I know that Susan Branch did books like that, but I can’t remember what the content of them was too much. And then of course the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady. If I think of anymore I will let you know!

  6. Good job finishing three books! I liked the Frozen River too. And I watched a lot of the Olympics … there were some awesome performances & races! I think I need to read up on Hester Stanhope …. thx

  7. That is wonderful that you met with a candidate. Frozen River is on my list. You are right.. with the 24in of snow we had over the weekend that is no time like right now.

  8. Good for you, reaching out to talk with a school board candidate. It has never occurred to me to do that, but it is such an important position.

Glad to hear you liked The Frozen River–Lawhon is one of my favorite modern authors, and I love how she approaches historical fiction, with the emphasis on historical!

I really enjoyed the Olympics as well. Lui, in particular, was such a joy to watch.
