Phryges #SundaySalon
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
We were under an excessive heat warning for much of the week, but it was really all about the humidity pushing the discomfort and danger up so high. That broke yesterday — what a relief! But it’s still definitely summer. I’m enjoying indoor exercise while watching the inspiring Olympians.
What are you reading?
I’m completely entranced by Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros. That’s my current audiobook, so I keep finding reasons to listen — which helps with housekeeping.
Our book club selected How the Word is Passed: A Reckoning with the History of Slavery Across America by Clint Smith. Smith wrote about his experiences visiting various historical sites related to slavery. So far, I’ve read the sections on Monticello and the Whitney Plantation, both sites that I have read about before — and I still learned things. I’m looking forward to the sites that are completely new to me.
I’ve struggled to find an e-book to enjoy. Although, it’s less about not finding anything to read and more about having too many things that I want to read. At the moment, I’m reading The Briar Club by Kate Quinn. But I got started on two or three other books that I might drop back into at any time. That’s unusual for me.
What are you watching?
The Olympics. Mostly, I’m watching the Primetime show, but usually the next day — so I have to avoid the news and most social media, or I’ll ruin the stories. When I have a little more time, I’ve been watching sports that show up less often in the broadcast coverage. I wrote about two of those sports in my British Isles Friday post — synchronized diving and equestrian eventing.
I’m also making a game of spotting the Olympic mascots, the Phryges.
What are you doing?
My month of keeping my novel manuscript in a drawer ends on Friday, so I’m gearing up for the editing process which I anticipate will take much longer than 90 days. At the moment, I have scheduled it for the next five months. But I’ve never done this before, so I really have no idea. Setting a deadline felt important to me, though, because I could see myself taking way too long without necessarily getting a better outcome in the end.
How are you this fine Sunday?
