Gateway Book #BookBloggerHop
Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer.
This is my first time participating in the Book Blogger Hop. Some of the upcoming topics look fun to explore!
Today’s prompt is: What was your gateway book—the book that made you want to read more—into reading or into a specific genre? (submitted by Meezan @ Caboodle of Cozie)
My gateway book to historical fiction was Dawn’s Early Light by Elswyth Thane, published in 1943.
My small hometown public library had the entire “Williamsburg” series, collectively a family saga beginning during the Revolutionary War and going to World War II. I’ve never reread these as an adult. I wonder if the Williamsburg books would hold up well.
Goodreads insists that this book was published in 1934, but I’m currently researching Washington, DC in 1943. I can confirm that Wikipedia is correct with the date of 1943. A display ad in the June 29 Washington Post features this book with the caption “All the charm of Colonial Williamsburg as well as the reality of the American Revolution.”
