Welcome to British Isles Friday! British Isles Friday is a weekly event for sharing all things British and Irish — reviews, photos, opinions, trip reports, guides, links, resources, personal stories, interviews, and research posts. Join us each Friday to link your British and Irish themed content and to see what others have to share. The link list is at the bottom of this post. Pour a cup of tea or lift a pint and join our link party!
Last week, I reviewed The Other Side of Mrs. Wood by Lucy Barker about the seance scene of London 1873. Like Susan, the previous week, Tina enjoyed learning from Beyond That, The Sea by Laura Spence-Ash about children sent from England to America for their safety in World War II.
My worst allergy symptoms often appear in February, and they always take me by surprise. February is early for spring pollination, after all. But if we have any warm days at all in Missouri in February, that’s enough to set off the elm and juniper trees with the maple trees not far behind. I’m allergic to all of them.
My main symptom is malaise, which means that I have no energy for anything — except watching YouTube videos. My best discoveries of YouTube channels happen in February. This year, one of those discoveries was Emma Cruises. I have absolutely no interest in taking a cruise, but my February brain didn’t care. It decided that I was interested in Emma and her cruise videos, anyway.
Obviously, a cruising YouTuber covers many countries and regions of the world, and the UK isn’t at the top of the list when you think of cruising destinations. So, why is Emma Cruises an appropriate topic for a #BriFri post?
First, Emma is British.
Second, she takes off from British ports and cruises on British ships more frequently than a typical cruiser.
Third, she routinely does a segment in her videos called Britishism of the Week where she explains British terms like skiving, knackered, and half nine.
I’m embedding some of the most British content that I found on her channel. If you want to enjoy some cruises on British Isles Friday, check these out.
