Dewey’s Read-a-Thon Update 4
Going slow, but I should have more time for much of the rest of the day.
The mini-challenge for Hour 8 was to recommend a book for a book club. That was easy. My book club is on something of a mission to get everyone to read The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration by Isabel Wilkerson (Book Review: The Warmth of Other Suns). It’s about the migration of blacks from the south to northern and western cities in the twentieth century. Sheila at Book Journey also asked for a menu to go with the book so I suggested the southern foods mentioned late in the book that the main characters continue to eat late in their lives: smothered chicken, corn bread, collards, and sweet potato pie. It may be time for a snack because that sounds really good right about now.
Now, we’re into Hour 9. I have to say the lolcat in that post is one of my favorite ever! The mini-challenge was a game to guess the book title from a synonym phrase — I don’t think I got them all correct, but it was fun!
What I’m reading: I read more in Influencer by Kerry Patterson, et. al. I’m enjoying it, but it’s time for a change. I think I’ll start Committed by Elizabeth Gilbert.
