Yard Work #ReadersWorkouts

Welcome to Readers’ Workouts, the weekly event where book lovers share workout stories, goals, successes, and challenges.
We’ve had some relatively cool days for August in Missouri, so I’ve been getting some yard work done. I get injured every time I do things by bending over, so I’ve had to get strong enough to do yard work by squatting and lunging. That does two things for me:
- In the summer, I can count yard work as strength-training
- In the winter, I’m motivated to do strength-training so that I can do yard work without injury
How is your exercise going? Does yard work count in your regime?
I totally understand Joy. My tomatoes are ripening and picking them requires lots of squats and lunges. Who would have thought picking veggies is a work-out, but it is!
It really depends on what kind of yard work whether I count it. Tying up tomatoes doesn’t count, but weeding does.
Sadly I don’t have any yard work where I live other than mowing etc. But when my son and I move to our house in a nearby town (still have some remodeling in the kitchen and dining room and painting to do first), I plan on having lots of flower beds and a vegetable garden.
No karate this week, but we’ve been walking a lot more than usual on vacation. No car and good public transport, I’ve made my Garmin steps goal 6 days in a row, planning to make today the 7th.
I avoid yard work because I end up with poison ivy every time, even if I’m doing something innocuous, like cutting back the vines that grow over the sidewalk. I can see how it would be good exercise though. Here’s My Readers’ Workout post
