Cozy Shows #SundaySalon
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
Given how hot and humid it got in late July, it’s hard to complain. We’re still seeing highs in the 90s, but the humidity is lower so it’s not quite as oppressive.
What are you reading?
I’m re-reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain as part of my preparation to lead a discussion of James by Percival Everett (James is a reimagining of the Twain story from Jim’s point of view). For this week’s British Isles Friday post, I did a bit of research to understand the humor in a passage about King Henry VIII.
What are you watching or listening to?
Speaking of King Henry VIII, on the same day that I published my post, J. Draper released a video that makes a convincing argument that everything is the way it is because Henry VIII and the Dissolution of the Monasteries. It’s a remarkably fun way to learn the history.
I want cozy, fun, distracting shows, right now.
I caught up on the two most recent seasons of Death in Paradise. I really enjoyed the latest inspector. It’s always been part of the schtick that any new inspector is initially unwilling and unsuitable for the role. With DI Mervin Wilson, played by Don Gilet, they milked that for more comedy and more depth.
Rick and I are watching All Creatures Great and Small in the evening. This is a re-watch for me. Rick used to fall asleep during historical costume dramas, but this one worked for him. It’s hitting the spot, for me, as a cozy distraction. We can currently watch Seasons 1 through 5 using our PBS Passport. A Season 6 is reportedly in the works.
Do you have recommendations for other shows given that those two worked well for me?
What are you doing?
I graduated from physical therapy and my back feels stronger and more pain-free than it has since high school. Now, I’m working out how to keep this up so that I continue to feel the benefits.
How are you this fine Sunday?
