Cozy Shows #SundaySalon — 21 Comments

  1. I’m so bad at recommending anything, and at actually watching anything, but my go-to cozy distraction when I do want to watch something would be the BBC adaptations of Dorothy L. Sayers’ mysteries. I love both actors who’ve played Peter, but Strong Poison and Have His Carcase with Edward Petherbridge are probably my favourites. I originally watched them from YouTube uploads, but made sure to get my hands on DVDs so I can keep them permanently!

  2. Three comedy-dramas that you might like are The Detectorists (working class treasure hunters), Ghosts (original UK version – couple inherit haunted house) and Upstart Crow – surprisingly funny story of Shakespeare and his times.

  3. I’ve never watched the newer version of All Creatures but watched every one of the old series with Christopher Timothy. We got out son’s name from that series.
Glad your back is doing better!

  4. I hope you fare better with James than I did. That book really bothered me; one reason was that in my opinion Everett stole Twain’s story to expound on his own views. I don’t like it when authors do not come up with their own novels, just as when Gwendolyn Brooks based her novel March on Little Women. Yet, I am in a minority, as both books won the Pulitzer Prize for Literature. And, my book club loved it. I hope you do, too. 😌

    • I’m re-reading The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn so that I could understand the differences — it turns out that they are numerous and vast. I enjoy the cleverness of Everett’s play with these characters in the 21st century.

  5. I reread The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn last month while preparing to lead a group discussion of James. Then our discussion got postponed to this month, so I decided to read a bio of Mark Twain, too. I wonder what you would think of this biography of Mark Twain.

  6. J. Draper looks fun! Loving Brit-TV and All Creatures. Death in Paradise, too. I hope they have new episodes soon. Do you ever watch McDonald and Dodds? Chelsea Detective? Dalgliesh? I like all those too!

    • I tried McDonald & Dodds with Rick and he didn’t get into it. I think I’ll try it on my own. If nothing else, I’m going to enjoy a series set in Bath.
I don’t currently have access to the other two, but clearly we’re going to want to try an AcornTV subscription at some point. Thanks for the suggestions!
