Sunday Salon for 10 March 2024
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
We had Camelot days earlier in the week — a little rain at night with bright cool days, perfect for displaying the neighborhood’s daffodils and forsythia. We expect a sunny Sunday after three cloudy wet days.
What are you reading?
I’m in a wonderful reading place, at the moment, with three books that I’m truly enjoying. The best part is that I’m only at the midpoint of all three books, so there’s a lot more to enjoy.
On my phone, I’m absorbed in the e-book science fiction adventure of Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir. Science fiction isn’t my usual genre, but this is working for me. I enjoy the narrative voice of the main character who is wryly amused and self-effacing, even in the direst circumstances.
My current audiobook is Romantic Comedy by Curtis Sittenfeld. The first half of the novel shows us one week of a fictional version of Saturday Night Live. That is fascinating. I have a feeling that things are about to change, though. Uh-oh. I just realized that the next chapter is called July 2020. It looks like I may be reading another pandemic novel.
In print, I’m continuing Jane Crow: The Life of Pauli Murray by Rosalind Rosenberg. So far, I’ve learned that poll taxes had a way bigger impact on America than I was taught and that Mahatma Ghandi’s influence on anti-racist activism showed up long before Martin Luther King, Jr.
What are you watching?
I’m still enjoying Good Omens 2. I’m currently watching the final episode.
We’re watching the newest season of Vera on BritBox. It feels weird to have to wait until Wednesday for the new episode to drop each week, because I’m now so used to watching series back-to-back. I love that Brenda Blethyn continues to play the lead character at age 78 — it gives me hope that I still have some creative years left.
What are you doing?
I had another three-post week on my blog.
I reviewed a pandemic novel to coincide with the fourth anniversary of the day that the first COVID-19 case was diagnosed in my county: Day by Michael Cunningham.
For British Isles Friday, I reviewed the 8th season of Shetland with a new character and story. That’s another show that we watch on BritBox.
For my second Book Blogger Hop, I wrote about how and why I summarize a book in my reviews.
How are you this fine Sunday?
