Sunday Salon for 28 January 2024
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
Gray. We get fog most mornings. It clears up by midday, but the day remains gray. Still, I’m so relieved that we’re out of the frigid temperatures, that I can’t complain too much — especially since we might see some sunshine in the coming week.
What are you reading?
I started our next book club book — The Three Mothers: How the mothers of Martin Luther King, Jr., Malcolm X, and James Baldwin shaped a nation by Anna Malaika Tubbs. We don’t often think about the mothers, do we? The perspective is fascinating.
I proposed The Confessions of Frannie Langton by Sara Collins to our book group, but they didn’t go for it. I wasn’t surprised. We usually read books about race in America and this book is set in Jamaica and Britain. I decided to read it anyway and I’m learning a lot of history about early 19th century London from this perspective of a black servant.
I guess books with fresh perspectives are the theme of the week.
What are you watching?
The fourth movie for Jane Austen January, hosted by Erin at Cracker Crumb Life and Lisa at Boondock Ramblings, is Miss Austen Regrets. This was a new-to-me film about Jane Austen in her later years. I had to work a bit harder to find some film locations, but there were some good ones for a fantasy trip to England.
What are you doing?
I compiled a list of Ten Books That I Meant to Read in 2023. The hard part of that post was limiting the number to ten!
How are you this fine Sunday?
