Readers’ Workouts — February 19 — 10 Comments

  1. 80 minutes a day, wow that’s a lot. If we had space for an excercise book I’d get one and watch tv when working out too. My week was pretty good. The post I linked to isn’t only about working out but my week in general, it felt more right to do it on Sunday. I got a pedometer and am walking all. the. time. It’s great!

  2. That’s a great strategy, Joy–giving yourself a workout reward (and one that doesn’t involve food)!

I’ve been having some medication calibration issues that have had me gaining weight in spite of the careful eating and four workouts per week, which is terribly frustrating. I see my doctor tonight, so hopefully we can sort some things out. In the meantime, we shall persevere!

    This week:
Wednesday – 90 min. dance class
    Friday – 60 min. gym
Sunday – 20 min. Pilates DVD plus however long I can last at a cardio DVD

  3. Sounds like you’ve got your groove back! I had no idea who John Barrowman was so clicked your link. You’re right, he’s a cutie.

Last week wasn’t so great for me, but I’m going to try and do better this week.

  4. I often work out while watching some TV as well, my favorite thing to do is strength training cuz I don’t have to totally watch everything I’m doing. I’ve found I can’t watch TV while I’m doing some cardio, like the treadmill, cuz I will get distracted and stop walking…I’m sure you can guess how well that goes!

  5. For some reason I can’t watch tv when I’m working out, I guess that’s a good thing (I listen to audiobooks) but your idea of catching up on a favorite program is a great idea.
    Have a great week.

  6. 80 minutes of working out sound awesome! I’m going to have to steal your idea about working out while watching TV. Especially since I want to marathon a whole soap opera! What kind of exercises do you do while watching TV? Any tips for a beginner?

    • I walk in place or forward and back, then add marches, dance steps, kicks, and arm movements as I get warmed up. After half an hour or so, I’ll switch to more strength-training exercises like squats, lunges, push-ups, and crunches. Then I’ll end with stretches. Mostly I’m using exercises that I’ve picked up over the years from DVDs like Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds and Crunch’s Candlelight Yoga.

  7. Went to the YMCA for the first time in months, on . Twenty minutes bike, twenty min slow
Treadmill. Took it Very Easy, due to broken elbow situation. But it felt good to do something gillis for the body. 🙂 that, and oh yeah, massaged kale. 😀
