Readers’ Workouts — January 15
Welcome to Readers’ Workouts, our weekly gathering of bookish folks doing active things. How was exercise for you in the past week? What are your plans for the coming week? Link your post below (feel free to grab the logo) or tell your story in the comments. Don’t forget to visit the links to offer encouragement and support to other participants!
I’m on track for 1400 minutes of exercise this month and I’m also meeting my goal to continue to emphasize strength training on the odd-numbered days. It’s been fun getting back to my own videos and games. In the last three days, I danced mambo, samba, and zumba! None of them well, mind you, but good enough for a workout.
How was your week in exercise?
Way to stay on track, Joy! It’s often difficult to do after the (fun) food fest that is the holidays. Like you, I’ve been dancing. I had my second class last night and I’m really happy with how quickly the muscle memory is taking effect, bring back technique and turn-out. Stamina has improved since last week, though muscle tone and balance and flexibility all still have a looong way to go.
So, my new usual this week:
Monday- 90 mins dance
Wednesday – 60 mins gym (20 cardio, 20 abs, 10 arms, 10 stretching)
Friday – 60 mins gym (20 cardio, 20 arms, 20 ballet barre)
Sun – 20 mins Pilates DVD
That’s a terrific plan! I’m sure you’ll start seeing more improvements.
I’m close to on track for my monthly minutes goal, but I’m finding the temperatures have been derailing me. It’s unusually cold for Colorado right now, we’ve had numerous days below freezing and I have a really hard time getting myself to leave during those days. I don’t have a large house, so I’ll do exercise videos and strength training at home, but I really can’t wait for it to warm up so I can go for more walks and hit the gym more often. I don’t know how anyone can leave the house when the high for the day is 14!
Great job, as always, Joy!
I’m jetlagged a bit today but I’m so excited to refocus for 2013, blog more, reconnect with everyone. I have company for ten more days… then my house/time is mine again. I know that sounds horrible but I haven’t had a night to myself for over a month (to read, blog, run).
Have a great week!
I’m getting back into zumba now that I’m stuck inside. I forgot what a great workout it is! My sister got me zumba for the wii for Christmas so I’m dragging her into it with me. Enjoy your week!

Great job, Joy! I’m on track minute-wise, though I need to put a schedule together, I think. That would help me include various kinds of exercise.
First, I am so happy I found out about this on the fit chat on Twitter last week! I hope more bloggers hear about it and participate.
I’ve been really lax myself with fitness since the new year, because I’ve been sick since Christmas. I’m finally on the mend though, and am looking into half-marathon training plans!
Glad to have you! Hope you’re feeling better soon!
I am getting back into working out too. I have to check out a group Zumba class too cause it looks like fun. I haven’t been here in a long time and a part of my Resolution is to visit my blogging friends (like you) more often. I think I will be adding this to my blog as well.
Congrats on your workout Joy!
I have two left feet but dancing is an awesome workout and so much fun. Keep up the good work!
I’ve just been getting back into a routine of sorts, getting ready for a 10 mile run on February 9th. Hopefully the next few warmer days (40s) will see me getting some running time in. The indoor cardio and weights are good but nothing beats running outside.
I’m looking forward to outside workouts this week, too, with those warmer Missouri days!
Hi Joy and other Readers Working Out..
I had a really rough week last week–my elderly father-in-law passed away early in the week and we all came down with bad head colds after that. 🙁 My father-in-law had been living with us for the last six years (since my mother-in-law passed away) so we could care for him at home instead of in a nursing home so his death has hit us especially hard. Needless to say, between being sick, contacting relatives, making arrangements and then hosting family in our home during the time of the funeral services, I had no time or energy to exercise. Or read. 🙁 Even this week, I feel a sort of apathy about getting to the gym or going outside to run, but I’m working on it.
Hope you all have a great week working out AND reading.
So sorry to hear that, Christine! That’s such a hard time and it will have an extra impact since he was part of the family in your home. Take care of yourself!
