New to My TBR #NonfictionNovember
For the final week of Nonfiction November, we’re joining Deb at Readerbuzz to share what new books we added to our TBR this month as a result of visiting each other’s posts.
Nonfiction November is definitely a success when I learn about a new book, read it, and review it before the end of of the month. That happened for me, this year, with The Novel Life of Jane Austen: A Graphic Biography by Janine Barchas and Isabel Greenberg. I’m recommending it, right now, to anyone who wants to find a quick way to honor Jane Austen’s 250th birthday on December 16. Thanks, to the What? Me Read blog for mentioning it.
Another success marker for Nonfiction November is to learn about a book that I want to get someone as a holiday gift. That happened for me, this year, with Bud Finds Her Gift, the new children’s book by Robin Wall Kimmerer who wrote Braiding Sweetgrass, a book for adults that my book group loved. With their emphases on gratitude and what can be learned from the Potawatomi culture, both of these books make excellent selections for Native American Heritage Month in November. I’m always looking for new books to recommend to my book club that specializes in books about race in America, but we occasionally branch out in related directions. I added these books to that list:
- Accountable: The True Story Of A Racist Social Media Account And The Teenagers Whose Lives It Changed by Dashka Slater, from Aj at Read All the Things
- An African history of Africa: from the dawn of humanity to independence by Zeinab Badawi, from Liz at Adventures in reading, running and working from home
- Bad Fat Black Girl: Notes from a Trap Feminist by Sesali Bowen, from Rebekah at She Seeks Nonfiction
- They Called Us Enemy by George Takei, from Karen at Autobiography of a Bookworm
I’m also always looking for books to review for the weekly link party that I host, British Isles Friday. Here are some ideas from Nonfiction November:
- The Darkroom: Case Files of a Scotland Yard Forensic Photographer by A.J. Hewitt, from Shelley at Book’d Out
- Come, Tell Me How You Live by Agatha Christie Mallowan (a memoir of her time spent on archaeological digs with her second husband), from Helen at She Reads Novels
- Take Courage: Anne Brontë and the Art of Life by Samantha Ellis (this would also give me a reason to finally read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall), from Cathy at What Cathy Read Next
