Stormy weather and soggy protestors #SundaySalon
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
We’ve had storms all day, but it didn’t keep people at home. I’ve seen photos of protests, large, medium, and small. Due to the rain, I went to a convenient small event and that worked out well.
I learned as a youngster to never wish away rain during a drought. We needed this — especially our farmers and our trees.
What are you reading?
I finished Demon Copperhead by Barbara Kingsolver and we had an amazing discussion at our book club meeting. I plan to write about all of that in my post later this week. It’s a bit of a stretch as a topic for a British Isles Friday post, but I’ll make it work!
Months ago, I started reading The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club by Helen Simonson. The library took it back. I’m finally reading it again. The story is memorable enough that I picked it up where I left off.
What are you watching or listening to?
I’m caught up on the current season of The Great British Baking Show.
In the evenings, I’m re-watching Downton Abbey with Rick. He went through a time when he always fell asleep while watching period pieces, so I watched it all originally on my own. Recently, though, he’s enjoyed The Gilded Age, so I thought he might like Downton Abbey and he has. We’re in the middle of Season 5. I’m enjoying a second look at these characters and stories.
What are you doing?
I attended my usual Black Lives Matter vigil. I had intended to head over to one of the bigger protests in our area, but I heard about a group that planned to protest at our vigil site as soon as we finished. So, I stayed on with them. Given that we experienced periods of heavy rain and lightning, that seemed the safest option. I’m so glad that I was able to participate!
I took this photo at the beginning. Many more people arrived later. I’d say we were about 50 at our largest moment.
