How’s the weather?
One of our local weather experts labeled our current time as False Fall. I’m still hoping that it lasts. I love cool mornings and not too hot afternoons.
What are you reading?
After I finished James by Percival Everett, I had a hard time finding something else that I wanted to read.
I ended up reading a bunch of Lucy Knisley books — she writes graphic novels and memoirs. I hadn’t kept up with her recent publications, so I was able to enjoy a whole stack of them.
I tried a couple of things for the next novel to read and finally landed on Confounding Oaths by Alexis Hall, the second in the series that began with Mortal Follies. Alexis Hall books are reliably fun and often funny.
What are you watching or listening to?
I saw a local production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in a nearby park — that’s the perfect play for an outdoor performance and we had a beautiful night for it. Given that it was Shakespeare, I wrote up my thoughts (with photos) for my British Isles Friday post.
I was surprised that I enjoyed Geek Girl, a series on Netflix about a teenager girl who unexpectedly finds herself in the fashion world as a model. It helped that there were relatively few scenes on runways and in studios. Most of the action happened at home, school, and — especially fun — lots of recognizable outdoor locations in London.
I was not surprised that we enjoyed The Thursday Murder Club movie on Netflix last night. I haven’t read the books, but it was a fun plot and I loved the actors.
What are you doing?
For Labor Day on Monday, I will attend a rally sponsored by Missouri workers to protest our state’s attempt at redistricting. I’ve never attended a Labor event on Labor Day. I’m looking forward to it.
