  1. Everything you talked about today was new to me. You have inspired me to do what I can. And I shall look for that book by Deborah Hopkinson. I’m glad to see people were working against the wrongs of their time in the ways they could.

  2. What a fascinating tour!! And no, I didn’t know any of it. I was a self-obsessed teenager when we went up in the St Louis arch so I would not have paid any attention to the location marker. If I went today, I would for sure.

    • The marker wouldn’t have been there when you were a teenager. The Arch grounds were redone a few years ago. Among many other improvements, they acknowledged what was there before the Arch.

  3. All new to me — at least, the specifics are. Not too surprising, we don’t teach a lot of US history in UK schools, and I stopped doing history per se when I was sixteen. (I still encountered/needed to now about a fair bit of history since I studied literature for my first degrees, but Welsh and medieval European history, very little modern world history.)

  4. What an interesting tour. I wish I’d known this when we were in St. Louis last year.
You mentioned in a comment to me about planning a road trip from Windsor to Nova Scotia. I replied “Oh yes, please come!! I’d be glad to help you with any ideas, we’ve driven to Nova Scotia several times!”

  5. I like hearing about this history, but I’m new to Elijah Lovejoy. He seemed to have a high moral compass. I have been to St. Louis once (and saw a Lewis & Clark exhibit years ago) and went to see the Arch. It is quite a sight. Thx for your report. I’m learning more about that area.
