Showing up #SundaySalon
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
Mother Nature is using a random generator to come up with temperatures in the past week. We had a pretty snow on Wednesday. It even stuck around for a bit but melted in the afternoon before the temperatures dropped below freezing again. Today (Friday) the high temperature will be 68 degrees. I’m looking forward to a spring walk. I am hearing a bit more birdsong each morning.
What are you reading?
Shakespeare: The Man Who Pays the Rent by Judi Dench continues to delight me.
I’m listening to James by Percival Everett. In August, I’ll lead a book discussion of this novel that tells the story of Huckleberry Finn from Jim’s perspective. Others said that the audiobook was good, so I thought I’d give myself a head start by listening to it. After hearing it, I definitely want to reread Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain this year, too.
What are you watching?
We’re enjoying Only Murders in the Building, the comedy/mystery series on Hulu that stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez. The three of them are so good together! We’re half-way through Season 4 (each season is 10 episodes long and each episode runs for 40 minutes or less). Fortunately, Season 5 has been announced.
What are you doing?
Attending events and meetings. I went to a meeting of Democrats this week that focused on education.
Tomorrow, if all goes to plan and my energy holds up, I’ll attend my usual Black Lives Matter vigil followed by two meetings.
The first is a meeting of activists that is also focused on education. My guess is that the activists will find something more interesting to do than the Democrats did, but we’ll see. I’m a little flummoxed by the whole thing right now after compiling information about the February 14, Dear Colleague Letter.
The second meeting is organized by educators. I have hopes for that one. Their title is: Amplify Your Voice: Effective Strategies for Advocacy. That’s what a lot of us are looking for right now.
Next week’s calendar has five events and meetings. And I’ve been ignoring some other opportunities that I could put on the calendar. I already have two meetings scheduled for the same time, so it’s clear that I can’t do everything!
On Friday, I took a break from my local community to check on world events from a British perspective. It’s a small relief to see that other world leaders are stepping up to defend democracy in the world.
How are you this fine Sunday?
