Weeki Wachee Springs #50YearsAgoToday #FloridaTrip — 6 Comments

  1. I remember that part of the performance was choreographed dancing underwater, and it made me think of ballet. They performed while holding their breath, and occasionally put their mouth on a dangling hose to take a breath. It looked like they were drinking. I remember that a villain in the show looked like a troglodyte, with a trident, but that I recognized that the person in the troglodyte suit was one of the mermaids from earlier, and was briefly confused. 🙂

  2. I lived in Tampa 1974-1976 but never got to Weeki Wachee. We never did in subsequent visits and yet I want to see it and the mermaids one day. I found out several years ago that it was now a Florida State Park, as you point out (so is an attraction I did see while living in Florida – Silver Springs.) Alas, Cypress Gardens (another attraction I visited) is no more. I love these pieces of what I call “Old Florida”. This is one great memory.
