Okay, it’s pretty late on Monday to be answering this question, but it’s still Monday! And a new year — Happy New Year, everyone!
Read
I finished How the Irish Saved Civilization by Thomas Cahill. An excellent short introduction to Irish history and how it fits in with the rest of Western Civ the way we were learned it.
The YA for Adults Book Club meets this week on Wednesday at Pudd’nhead Books. I’m looking forward to discussing Unearthly by Cynthia Hand. I liked it except that the ending wasn’t quite enough of an ending and more of a “buy the next book in the series to see what happens next” sort of thing.
I started but didn’t finish Tongues of Serpents by Naomi Novik, the next in the series about Temeraire, the dragon fighting the Napoleonic Wars. Apparently, I’m done with that series. I really liked it in the beginning, but it’s not my normal historical time period of interest and I guess even dragons are only going to hold my attention for so long.
Reading
It’s unusual for me, but I’m not currently reading any fiction.
Instead, I’ve picked up Rick Steves’ Ireland to work with planning our trip and I’m really enjoying American Nations by Colin Woodard.
Will Read
I’m not sure what I’ll read next. Check back next week to see!
