Visiting my State Capitol #SundaySalon
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
All over the place. We had a high in the 80s on Tuesday. On Sunday, we expect a high in the mid-60s around midday. Then the temperature will plunge 40 degrees — accompanied by thunderstorms and wind. That’s going to be the end of the daffodils, magnolias, and cherry blossoms. I would be somewhat more hopeful for the redbuds and forsythia, but they will also have to make it through Monday with a high of 30 and low of 14. So, we’ll see.
I plan to make a bouquet of the daffodils since I don’t expect them to keep the yard bright beyond Sunday. I might as well enjoy them in the house for a few days longer.
What are you reading?
I finished This Is Not a Book About Benedict Cumberbatch by Tabitha Carvan. Watch for my review on British Isles Friday. I liked it!
Now, I’m devouring The Astral Library by Kate Quinn. I enjoyed several of her novels set during and around World War II (The Rose Code, The Huntress, The Alice Network, The Diamond Eye). Her new book is something completely different — a fantasy that dives into what it would be like if readers could literally escape into their favorite books.
What are you watching or listening to?
We really enjoyed Outrageous on BritBox, a show about the Mitford sisters. I plan to review that for a British Isles Friday post soon.
I’ve been listening to The Daily, a New York Times podcast that is also broadcast on my local public radio station. The long format helps me feel more informed instead of just more outraged (although, I’m that, too). I listen on YouTube when I’m exercising at my desk or through my podcast app during walks.
What are you doing?
I went to Jefferson City this week with a couple of friends. One of the things that I learned in doing this two years in a row is that you’re most effective when talking about bills in progress. That’s not entirely satisfying because things that I care most about (fair funding of schools, due process for everyone, and whatever we’re calling what is happing in the Middle East) aren’t addressed in current bills.
But, we talked about things that will help the lives of our fellow Missourians and do have legislation that stands a chance of passing or being voted down — our tax structure, gathering data about tick-borne diseases, Paraquat (a weed killer that causes Parkinson’s Disease), child care, and more.
How are you this fine Sunday?
