Rejoice! #SundaySalon
Happy Sunday! Sunday Salon is hosted by Deb at ReaderBuzz. Check out her post and the links to see what other bloggers have been up to in the last week.
How’s the weather?
We’re in a deep freeze for the weekend. I survived our vigil with three or four layers on every part of my body and still had cold toes and fingers. We forget, every winter, what our cut-off temperature is for canceling the vigil. Now we know. The 20s was as low as want to be out there and invite others to join us, so our cut-off temperature is 20 degrees.
What are you reading?
I finished Jane Austen at Home by Lucy Worsley. I’ll post a review on Friday, a few days past Jane’s 250th birthday on Tuesday.
That’s the last of the books that I scheduled myself to read in 2025. So, I got to pick something fun for my next book. I took a recommendation from AJ at Read All the Things! She said to put The After Life of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand on my holiday reading list, so I did. There are five books on my holiday reading list, and this is the one that rose to the top. I’m really enjoying this YA novel inspired by Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
What are you watching or listening to?
We both enjoyed the third season of The Diplomat. This is a smart political drama with a bunch of humor and an over-the-top plot (or, at least, I hope it is). It’s less idealistic than The West Wing, but aren’t we all?
My pick for holiday rom-com of the week is Christmas Ever After on Hulu, about a novelist who suddenly encounters a real-life version of her romantic hero.
What are you doing?
The religious tradition that I grew up in had the concept of the third Sunday in Advent and we named the third candle on the Advent wreath “Joy.” A few years ago, I learned that other traditions call this Gaudete Sunday, using the Latin word for “Rejoice.” And, that it is accompanied by this lovely 16th century carol. So, I’ll listen to this over the weekend and find reasons to rejoice.
