Book Review: Do I Look Fat in This? by Jessica Weiner — 14 Comments

  1. Hi Joy! I think this sounds like a really helpful book. My understanding of the issue is that you have to get to the bottom of what is causing the problem in the first place, and not just treat the symptom (weight issues). Having said that, who is to say that being a bit over-weight is a problem – that is cultural…although being obese is, of course, a health issue. Anyway, hopefully there will be more and more books like this and fewer fad diet books!

  2. My issue is overeating. I eat too much food, all sorts of food. I have to watch my sodium content as my BP is already to high. I don’t eat fatty foods as they don’t agree with my digestion, same with dairy. I know what I should be eating, but it doesn’t happen all the time. I do encourage myself and use positive self talk. My exercise is spotty, but a few times a week. I do make excuses to go up and down the stairs at home lots of times daily, al lots of getting up off the sofa throughout reading or computer time etc. It’s a complex issue, this eating and food. My son is an excellent source of information. He researches a lot to help with his body building. I’ll be looking forward to more of your posts.

  3. Sounds like a thoughtful book, I’d like to read. I recently started a healthier lifestyle, taking my husband and my kids along for the ride. We’re changing a little at a time, more exercise and healthier eating. Enjoyed the post and the review. Thanks 🙂

  4. This is indeed such a complicated issue. It’s such a fine line between, on the one hand, being positive about ourselves and making positive changes and, on the other, recognizing that we are overweight or eat too much or eat unhealthful food. I missed that commercial too.

  5. This: “no one loses weight by hating her body.” What an interesting idea. I do think that we need to change the conversation that we’re having but like BFR says above, it’s a fine line between the negative that is the cause for positive change. Great post Joy.
