Returning home #50YearsAgoToday #CaliforniaTrip
On our last day of our road trip, we drove from Dodge City, KS, back home to Louisiana, MO – a pretty long day, but not the longest of our trip!
As Dale and I have been talking about our memories, we noted the sacrifices that our parents made to take us on a trip like this — something that was harder to see when we were kids.
So, lots of gratitude at the end of this project to post about our family trip day-by-day.
Thanks to my parents for taking us on this trip – fortunately, I did manage to say that once or twice while they were still living.
Thanks to Mother for keeping a trip diary and holding on to it. That’s what made this project possible.
Thanks to Dale for sharing his memories and helping me tap into mine. We built a very long email thread and engaged in several phone conversations.
Thanks to everyone who reacted or responded to these posts – you made this project even more fun than I expected it to be.
Here are the posts in chronological order to make it easier to read about this trip from start to finish:

It was a fun trip to be on with you as a youngster. It’s interetsing to read and a blast from the past!
I enjoyed reading your posts about your trip to Disneyland from 50 years ago. I did not make it to Disneyland until I was about 25 or so. I was living in Edgewater Colorado and friend I met in Las Vegas was living in Texas. We Rented a car in Las Vegas and drove to California.I think we stayed at Best Western Apollo Inn in Anaheim. We went to Disneyland, Knotts Berry farm, drove up to Wally world… But it was closed, went to the farmers market in Los Angeles, Grumman theater, Madame Tussaud’s Wax museum, Stayed at Dana point one night, we were headed to San Diego to go to the zoo, but about halfway there we decided not to go and turn around. We stayed at Circus Circus in Las Vegas and saw a couple of live shows, splash was one of them. I think I spent all one dollar on gambling. Never been back to Las Vegas since.
