I wanted to get comfortable using the Tube early in my stay in London, so I took advantage of a London Walks tour called Lure of the Underground. I got to get on and off several trains, see the inside and outside of stations, and learn all kinds of historical and architectural facts that most Londoners don’t know.
The Lure of the Underground Tour met at the Baker Street Station, London’s oldest Tube station.
Fiona, our fearless guide, told us lots of interesting things. Here we were learning that many of the early riders of the Tube were illiterate, so each station’s tile work was done in a different color scheme.
Not Tube related, but I had to get a photo of the Agatha Christie memorial in the shape of a book. It’s located near St. Martin’s Theatre where the Mousetrap is in its 63rd year of performance.

I loved the Tube. I enjoyed the trains in Montreal and Chicago, too. New York confuses me, though. What cities have transportation systems that you find comfortable and easy to use as a tourist?
