First 2015 Weekend #WeekendCooking #NewYearBooks #HealthBooks
Happy New Year! How are you spending the first weekend of 2015? I’m reading some books to support my New Year’s Resolutions, one of which is Live Healthier. I had that down pat a few years ago but things slipped in 2014. I’m ready to get going again, including finding some new menu items to cook to spice up our repertoire.
I’ve got some things going on the blog right now for people who are reading, resolving, and cooking.
The New Year’s Resolution Reading challenge — a short-term challenge to start the new year off right with books that support our projects, resolutions, and goals. This goes until the end of January.
The Healthy Lifestyle Books Reading challenge — a year-long challenge for 2015 to read books that support a healthy lifestyle. We define ‘health’ broadly here — physical, mental, emotional, spiritual.
The War of Art read along — a read along of a book that is, ostensibly, for creative types, but really works for anyone who feels simultaneously drawn to a goal and resistant to it. Like the way I’d really like to not use a measuring cup to serve my applesauce bread pudding for breakfast even though that’s the best way I know to get the serving sized appropriately. Join us for a slow read of a slim and wise book.
Weekend Cooking is hosted each Saturday at Beth Fish Reads blog. Join her today for a recipe for spiced almonds (yum!) and links to other cooking posts.
What a good idea–to reinforce your resolutions by choosing what you read carefully … love this!
Ugh the measuring cup. I’m about to start up on MyFitnessPal again on Monday and the measuring cup is the only way I can really get an accurate measure. Crazy how big we THINK the serving size should be!
Good luck with your goals and happy new year!
I like it, Reading, Resolving and Cooking, a great and healthy way to start the new year.
Sound like good plans!
Great series of reading groups/challenges. I did well last year but always slip soon after Halloween. I’m ready for regular workouts and real food again. It all starts tomorrow with our first normal grocery shopping since before Thanksgiving.
It looks like you are starting the year off on a good footing. Like Beth F., I’m ready to get back to normal eating and regular workouts.
An incredible support system you’ve started here. I love the selections for the resolutions reading challenge. I’m going to definitely pick up the one on the surprising truth about what motivates us; sounds intriguing.
I’ll be dropping by now and again in each to see how it’s going. (I’m a slug and not quite ready to commit.) 😀
Happy New Year, Joy!
You are right healthy living includes mental health-my goal is more yoga and pilates. I have the exercise part down but mediation is just as important. Happy New Year.
You have good goals and diverse groups to read on here. I may need to hitch to your bandwagon on the healthier living aspect regarding reading. I have goals for eating better and getting exercise but reading about it may reinforce me better!
