Readers’ Workouts — February 4
Welcome to Readers’ Workouts, the weekly event where book lovers share workout stories, goals, successes, and challenges.
I met my goal of 1400 minutes in January with a couple of big days at the end. I’m off to a pretty good start in February, but I only managed a short walk yesterday. We may get enough snow to shovel today, so I’ll make up my minutes pretty quickly.
My goal for February is 1400 minutes again, even though it’s a short month. I think I can handle the extra 5 minutes a day on average. I also intend to continue my daily exercise streak — today’s workout will be 200 days of exercise in a row!
What are your exercise and fitness goals for this month?

That’s quite an achievement Joy. If I have done the arithmetic correctly that works out on average to 40 mins each day? Does any kind of exercise count?
Yep! I count everything. Mostly it’s walks of 30 minutes a day, but I also count shoveling snow and dancing around my office. I make up the rest of the minutes in strength-training and stretching — so most days, that’s 15 to 20 minutes after my walk.
Karate group class, my private lesson, and sparring class last night, I slept well! I’ve disconnected my Fitbit from Sparkpeople, it seems to report oddly low calorie amounts and I’d prefer to keep Sparkpeople honest because that’s where I track my food.
I feel like I’m holding myself back because of the boot camp. Only 30 minutes of real exercise a day whereas before I was doing 2-4 hours a day. It feels weird to do so little but I’m seeing progress. The strangest days are the days we’re supposed to take off. I’m not used to giving my body a day of rest. But I did it last week and this week and I don’t seem any worse for wear when I get back to exercising on Monday. I’ve lost 12 lbs this year and counting.
That’s awesome Joy, congrats! I wish I could commit myself to exercising every single day. Last week was great, I was able to do a couple of fitness classes, hit the spinning bike, and work on core and balance.
Congrats on the 1400 min. Exercise workout in January. I’m not sure when I will start my exercise, I just reach for one goal a week. So I know I’m going to have to start soon.
Glad you met your goal Joy! I’m doing better, but still not where I want to be on a daily basis.
