Book Review: Cooked by Michael Pollan (Part 2) — 12 Comments

  1. I can not even imagine you as obese. I know you have shared on this here, on your site, but your outlook is always so healthy and positive.
    Anyway, I like how you are breaking this book down in separate reviews.

  2. As a still obese person it is obvious to me that when I make the effort to plan and cook meals I feel better and don’t gain weight than those times when I do rely on takeaway etc. I need to be more consistent on planning and cooking.

  3. I don’t have weight issues but other health issues have motivated me to a more “clean eating” approach. I love cooking from scratch, it’s tastier and healthier than commercially prepared and I like knowing what’s in my sauces, mixes, dressings, curries etc. I also have a new found love of making bread from scratch (great therapy) so I’m looking forward to your post next week.

  4. I’m one of those people who never thought cooking was a chore but I know so many people who hate it. I’ve never understood why. Anyway, I think I’d love this book and must get to my audio copy very soon.

  6. Michael Pollan is so interesting. I do need to read more of his work. I love the two quotes you highlighted. I’ve always enjoyed the act of cooking, but can find it tiresome when you “have” to cook eg quick mid week meals for the family etc when it can be more of a task than a pleasure. I’ve lost 20kg this year and there has certainly been a lot more chopping…I do feel so much better for it though, that the chopping isn’t a problem. Thanks for reminding us about the importance of Pollan’s work- he has so much to say, and it’s so important.
