Last Friday, I announced that I was going to Live Like Julia for a week, answering the challenge by Karen Karbo, author of Julia Child Rules: Wanted: Bloggers to #LiveLikeJulia For One Week and Write About It.
I chose to test-drive Rule #6: To Be Happy, Work Hard. In retrospect, that wasn’t the wisest choice, perhaps, with a family member in the hospital this week. Although, if all had gone as expected she would be out by now. Things didn’t go as expected and I spent much of today at the hospital, working hard at being a good wife and daughter-in-law. Important work, to be sure, but not what I had planned for the week. I might be better off had I selected Rule #3: Learn to Be Amused or Rule #7: Solve the Problem in Front of You.
On the other hand, if I hadn’t been focused on Rule #6: To Be Happy, Work Hard today, I probably wouldn’t have worked on my writing at all. Instead, when I got a spare hour, guess what I did? I wrote. And I’m thrilled with how just that little bit of work kept me in touch with my project.
How do you cope when your carefully laid plans are waylaid by unexpected events?
