Quiet by Susan Cain Read-Along, Discussion of Parts 2 and 3 — 2 Comments

  1. When Cain wrote about Kagan and the orchid child theory, I immediately thought of my youngest. He is definitely an orchid child. My parenting style for each of my kids is different because their personalities are so different, but with him he needs a lot of coaxing and patience. I can definitely see the whole “nature” part.

It’s only been recently that I’ve been aware of environmental factors and their influence on personality. I’m an introvert and I don’t like a lot of stimulation. I’ve noticed that when it comes to the lighting of my ereader and cell phones, it’s on the lowest level it can possibly be. I live in a house filled with people but hate a lot of noise.

You’re right about finding ways to be extroverted. I’m extroverted online by blogging. Besides, it’s convenient. I can have a deep conversation when I need and want to without the pressure of leaving my house to do so!

    Great questions, Joy.
