My exercise minutes are down a little this week and I missed a strength-training workout due to some muscle pain in my trapezius. I aggravated an old high school volleyball injury by being inattentive and rushed during an abdominals workout. I know better. The problem was that I didn’t want to work out at all so somehow giving it less than full due was supposed to improve the situation. Sigh.
The good news is it’s already back to about 80% in only two days. This is the sort of injury that used to set me back weeks. I assume that the quicker healing is due to all the great muscle development I’ve been getting the last few years.
I walked every day and I’m sure by tomorrow I’ll be ready to ease back into strength training.
What do you do when you don’t feel like working out to get yourself back in the groove?
I usually go for a walk too if I don’t want to do anything.
I have an elliptical machine in the basement that is my backup in case I’m too lazy to make it to the gym.
I hope you are back to 100% soon — congratulations on keeping up with some form of exercise.
Oh, that’s the worst. I hope you feel better soon! Don’t push yourself if you’re not ready to be active, either. Healing is the first priority.
I can use more hints on what to do when you’re easing back in. My absolute downfall and biggest flaw is that once I stop exercising, it takes for.ever. to get me going again. I’m terribly lazy if I let myself be. once I’m into the groove I’m fine and even look forward to my workouts, but I have real trouble getting to that point. (Thankfully, I’m finally there again!)
Achieved 3 out of 4 of my goals last week. I didn’t manage the weekend Pilates session because I was, you know, doing stuff…(no excuse at all, of course!) Same set this week:
Monday: 90 min dance class
Wednesday: 60 min gym
Friday: 60 min gym
Saturday: 20 min Pilates
Good luck, everyone!
Injuries are tough, good for you to keep going in other areas! I had a bad week due to illness 🙁
Hey Joy! Sorry I didn’t post my readers workout yet. I am fighting a cold and nothing is new on the workout scene yet. But when I don’t feel like working out I change it up a bit. Like if I have to do cardio (treadmill) I will change to Zumba or something fun. Dancing is a great workout! Have fun Joy! 🙂
Hope you’re feeling better soon, Alysia!
I hope you’re healed up soon! If I start burning out, I do let myself take a day or two off here or there, but no more. I start looking for something new to do and that usually gets me back on track. I like variety!
Sorry! My phone & Mr. Linky are not getting along today. I just added the link to this week’s post.
I’m late and it’s been a while but I’m back… possibly not with gusto.
Pity about the old injury playing up (surprising how those things do not go away!) but good thing that you’ve noticed your recovery has improved due to all your hard work. Make it a reminder of your exercise success.
I forgot to stretch after my last two runs and naturally regret it now as my calfs are tight. We must live and learn not to skimp on doing things properly!!
I’m sorry to hear about your injury, Joy! Hope it’s much better today!
I have a recumbent bike and also take my dog, Dixie for walks twice a day. I have to get up from my computer now and again or my brain turns to concrete, lol.
