Readers’ Workouts — December 18
Welcome to Readers’ Workouts where readers prove we can move. Join us to share your exercise stories and find companions for the fitness journey.
I’m starting to look longingly at my other exercise DVDs, but I’ve come this far, I really want to finish 30 days of Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred. It will take me 60 days to complete it, all together, since I’ve been doing it every other day starting on November 1.
There’s nothing magic about 30 days in the actual video, by the way. It’s just in the title, but that’s enough to make me want to put 30 days in.
I’ve gone back to doing Levels 1 and 2 for awhile. Yesterday, I finally managed what I’ve been trying to do since the beginning of this month — all the push ups in Level 1 from my feet and all the strength-training reps with 4 pound dumb bells.
I’m a little behind pace to reach 1400 minutes of exercise this month, but there’s still time to catch up.

Always a good reminder to keep up the workouts. I just got back from the gym– intervals on the treadmills. A must to my day. Now… to hit the showers…
I need all the reminders I can get this time of year! Yay, you, for getting to the gym!
Good for you for keeping up with the 30 Day Shred program. I know first hand that it’s tough to stay on track when you’re left to your own devices at home! Which is why I do so much better with a gym membership. Although in the last three years or so, I’ve added so much more that I do on my own so I’m sort of half gym inspired, half on my own inspired. Even then, when I’m on my own, 99.9% of the time I’m working out outside. Yes, even in the winter! I will bike in temps as low as 30-32F (with little or no wind chill) and run in temps as low as 20F. Sure beats 90F as far as I’m concerned!
I clocked in with 378 minutes last week, which is roughly 6 hrs and 18 minutes over a week. I’m content with that.
I don’t know what this week is going to look like.. my youngest was up all night with a stomach bug, which means I was up all night with her, which meant I missed today’s workout. Now I’m fearing I’m next–those bugs spread like wildfire. If so, this week will be a light workout week for me. Which stinks because I planned on earning some Christmas cookies!!!! lol!
I hope you don’t get sick!
We’ve got a predicted high of 60 today, so no excuses! I’ll get out!
Good for you for staying so on track. And don’t feel guilty about a few extra treats. I firmly believe it’s okay to be just a little lax at this time of year, as long as you get right back on track in January! Much better to slip a little but enjoy yourself than be miserable and cookieless forever.
I do better at the gym too, less to distract me there than at home! I go for a lot of walks in the nicer months, but I prefer indoors when it’s freezing out. And my dog refuses to go for a walk when it’s snowy…princess puppies don’t do that!
I’ve been at my parents’ place since the weekend so there has been no reading OR working out! 🙂 well done on your progress and dedication, it’s wonderful to see.
I’m very pleased to say that I’ve remained on track. 3 gym sessions per week, each consisting of 20 minutes of cardio, a half hour combo of weights and ballet barre, and stretching. Same deal this week!
Woohoo! That’s great to stay on track in December.
Thanks, Joy. You too!
You are so great with 30DS! I haven’t been as great this month–mostly because I’ve been focusing more on the running. But like you I’ve also started looking at the other DVDs collecting dust. I’d like to do 30DS two more times to finish out L3 and then move to a rotation with other programs. It has been a lot of fun the past 6 weeks!!
