Book Review: Stories for Children by Oscar Wilde and a Wilde visit to St. Louis — 14 Comments

  1. Interesting about Wilde, I never knew he wrote for children. Have to agree with you after reading that passage, might be a bit much for some. I could just hear some parents now, but those same parents would be fine with a violent video game most likely.

  3. I love that you are immersing yourself in Irish authors before your trip. As I mentioned last week, I was surprised that Oscar Wilde wrote for children. These do seem to be for older children – maybe 12 or 13 and up? After your post last week I asked my son, who is a fan of Wilde, if he knew of his children’s books. He said, “Oh sure, Mom, I read those when I was about 15 or 16. Don’t you remember?” No I didn’t remember but he said it was what hooked him on Wilde’s adult books. So, your introduction of the topic last week led us to a lovely discussion.

  4. I had no idea that Wilde wrote stories for children! I loved reading this post – thanks for sharing your experiences with both the book and the visit to the gardens. I have linked to this review on the main Ireland Challenge page. 🙂

  5. Oh, what a lovely post – I know Wilde wrote some children’s stories, and I do remember The Happy Prince, but it’s a long time since I’ve read them. Thank you for reminding me about them!

  7. good read, it is surprising how many people are not aware of oscar wildes childrens stories, i have tried getting my six year old interested but i think it might be too advanced, i did see a faint glimmer of hope with the selfish giant.

joy , i am admin of the oscarwildefanclub and i would love if you would consider doing a guest blog piece for it.

    keep up the good work
