Book Review: The Way to Eat by David Katz and Maura Gonzalez — 15 Comments

  1. We eat pretty well too, but some books go overboard with the idea of moderation. Potato chips on the Fourth of July is one thing but eating them every time you have a craving is another. I think I’ll pass on this one. I’m looking forward to the rest of nutrition month (and I had no idea there *was* a nutrition month). I do think it’s important to have lots of colors on your plate and not too much white…

  2. How fun to meet up with a high school friend after so many years, and to find that you can pick up right where you left off.

I like the “eat well with color” theme. One of my children has a very bland diet – white food all over the plate. It’s a struggle.

Have you read THE OMNIVORE’S DILEMMA? Our neighborhood book group will read it next month — should be a great discussion!

    • My husband read The Omnivore’s Dilemma — so I didn’t have to! I read In Defense of Food. Same issues, but a different way of looking at them. The Omnivore’s Dilemma would be better for a book group. I hope you all like it!

  3. I’m pretty sure that my problem is just plain eating too much. I have been trying to make more soup and to eat lots more fruit and veg. Mostly the family is getting used to it. I do have a sweet tooth and that is hard to work around. It is better if I have small treats regularly than try and not have any at all, that’s when I binge out on them.

  4. I am eating healthier than I ever have now that I’m diabetic. I’m glad there are National dates set aside to help everyone do what we should be doing already. I’ll have to get involved with some of these.

  5. I do would not recommend this book, although the advice is sound, it doesn’t deal with the larger issue that temptation lead to the down fall of a full on dieter. Subsitute the baked for the fried is ok if you can eat the 10 recommended chips. I can’t do that, I consider my self to be in control but what is the point if you are left wanting more? I have learned that self control in all matters are necessary and if your defensive’s fail, then eat the real chip you want. You will find you want it less, it really doesn’t taste as good as the memory of eating it proclaims. Memories are really weird, when you lose bad habits, and try those same cravings, they just don’t taste the same.

  6. Wow, Joy, your blog is becoming THE place to go for helpful books on healthy eating. I’m truly amazed at the list of books you’ve introduced us to.
